Memphis International Airport (MEM) in Tennessee, US, is set to unveil its upgraded B concourse on 15 February.

The new concourse will receive a Delta Air Lines flight as its first flight while departing flights will commence operations on 16 February.

MEM is currently executing a $245m modernisation project, which is set to complete soon.

The airport is working on concessions, retail and airline operations space on the ground level.

In the upcoming weeks, airlines, restaurant and retail employees will hold training sessions for their staff at the airport.

As part of the multi-year upgrade project, the airport’s B Concourse is being improved.

Work will also continue to consolidate the operations of all airlines, retail and food/beverage units.

Under the project, the airport is adding wider corridors, moving walkways, larger gate areas, higher ceilings and enhancing natural lighting.

Apart from seismic upgrades, MEM is incorporating new restaurant/retail options, charging stations, extra lounge areas and new air-conditioned jet bridges.

The south-east leg of the B Concourse will be used to support international arriving flights only.

It will feature 23 gates, with the capacity to process nearly six million passengers.

In a statement, MEM said: “Continued long-term growth at MEM could facilitate another modernisation phase for the west leg of the B Concourse, which contains about 15 more gates that could increase capacity to nearly 11 million annual passengers. Ticketing/check-in will continue in the A, B and C Terminals.”

While A and C concourses are planned to remain shut, the infrastructure will be retained for possible future use.

Besides, the back portion of the C concourse will be removed to support ‘more efficient’ airline traffic to and from the B concourse.

Last October, MEM announced plans to install Amadeus’ airport management solutions to enhance its operational efficiency.
